Josephine Mbuya is a Partner with over fourteen years of distinguished legal practice in Tanzania, during which she has advised on a breadth of complex and high-value transactions and projects across diverse sectors. Her principal areas of expertise include project finance, mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, technology law, and corporate law more broadly.
Throughout her career, Josephine has provided counsel to both multinational and domestic clients on a number of landmark transactions. She was notably part of the advisory team for Total Outre-Mer (now TotalEnergies) in its acquisition of GAPCO and advised CRDB Bank Plc on its rights issue and underwriting process, alongside steering various other significant cross-border and local mergers and acquisitions.
Her academic credentials further reinforce her expertise: she holds a Master’s degree in Commercial and Maritime Law, as well as a Bachelor of Laws degree, both conferred by the University of Buckingham. In addition, she holds a Postgraduate Diploma in the Management of Foreign Affairs, has undertaken a leadership programme delivered jointly by Aalto University and the Uongozi Institute, and in 2016, completed a three-week senior associate secondment with the eminent City law firm, Slaughter and May, in London.
Prior to joining Abenry Advocates, Josephine practised as an associate at Adept Chambers. Earlier in her career, she undertook a six-week professional training placement as a legal trainee at Spoor & Fisher, a renowned law firm in Jersey, Channel Islands, Britain.
